Q: MY daughter is very depressed and having anxiety attacks which is affecting her health.

She has a very low self- confidence. The depression is becoming worse and I am helpless because she doesn’t listen to me. She is always negative about everything and this makes me very sad.

I don’t know what to do to make her happy. We try so much to make her happy but it’s not working. She doesn’t even show interest in prayers at home and just does it because I make her do it.

She has a good job, is very pretty and is not lacking in anything. She is single and says that she feels that she will not find a partner because nobody is interested in her.

Please assist as this is causing me and her father endless worries.

Will she get over the depression and will she get married? What can we do?

A: Hi, your daughter’s marriage time will be from 2023 onwards. In her horoscope her planet moon is very weak and also aspected by the planet Saturn, the root cause of her negative thinking.

She has to try to be optimistic and have pious and positive thoughts to make her planets strong especially related to the marriage issue.

As one who is married attains a positive and happy feeling. If one is negative and unhappy, then the ability to attract a good life partner diminishes. May I suggest exposing her to spiritually uplifting discourses that are known to turn around even one who is at the lowest point in their life.

We are also currently extremely fortunate as we are in the best month as per Hindu calendar. This is called Karthik month and it just started from Sharad Purnima night.

One who wishes to improve mental stability and remove depression must observe this month in its full splendour.

I shall detail the importance of this month as many are well aware of how beneficial it is from my articles in previous years.

According to Hindu scriptures, there are four holy months in the year. These together are called “Chaturamas”. It starts with

“Shravan”, that is one of the holiest months and ends with the “Karthik month.

“Shravan” month, popularly known as “Sawan”, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. “Karthik” month, popularly known as “Damodar Mass”, is dedicated to Lord Hari and this Karthik month is also very dear to Lord Shiva. The other two months of “Chaturamas” are Bhadrapad and Ashwin.

The yogis, munis, gurus, highly spiritual people and hardcore devotees observe a strict fast for four months.

Those people who follow “Jainism Religion”, “Chaturamas fast” is the essence of their religion. They have their set rules and norms to follow it.

ABOUT KARTHIK MONTH:

Karthik is the holiest month in the Hindu lunar calendar. It usually overlaps the months October and November in the English calendar.

It is described in the scriptures as the best months for performing austerities.

Lord Shri Krishna says, “Of all plants, the sacred Tulsi is most dear to Me; of all months, Karthik is most dear, of all places of pilgrimage, My beloved Dwarka is most dear, and of all days, Ekadashi is most dear.” (Padma Purana, Uttara Khand 112.3)

Karthik or the festival of offering lamps to Lord Krishna, glorifies Lord Krishna’s pastime of being bound with ropes by Mother Yashoda.

Observing vrata (fast) in the month of Karthik is glorified in the Puranas.

“As Satyuga is the best of yugas (ages), as the Vedas are the best among scriptures, as Ganga is the best of rivers, so Karthik is the best of months, the most dear to Lord Krishna.” (Skanda Purana).

This fast /observation of (vrata) has already begun and ends on November 30, and one may observe the following foremost activities throughout the entire month of Karthik:

Japa – chanting the holy names of the Lord.

Worship the Lord by offering ghee lamps (diyas). One who wishes to live a wonderful life with both material and spiritual progress must light a ghee lamp every day this month and offer it with love and devotion to any form of Lord Krishna, worship Tulsi Devi, give charity and perform austerities.

If you cannot observe the above mentioned, then at least chant any mantra of your choice, or mantra given to you by your guru /astrologer etc. as much as you can during this pious month, irrespective of whether you are observing the fast or not (it doesn’t matter). You will still receive many fold benefits by chanting.

The following are excerpts from some scriptures (Puranas) describing the glory of the pious Karthik month:

“If somebody performs even a little worship of Lord Shri Hari in this month, He offers that devotee His own abode.”

If somebody burns a lamp in the temple of Lord Shri Hari even for a short time (in the month of Karthik), then his sins, start getting destroyed.

A person, who for the entire month of Karthik eats only once a day, becomes very famous, powerful and heroic.

O Narada! I have personally seen that a person who happily reads the Bhagavad Gita in the month of Karthik does not return to the world of birth and death.

The pious result obtained by bathing in all holy places and giving all charities is encouraged by our scriptures for the one following the vow of Karthik.

One who takes a bath before sunrise in the pious month of Karthik then accumulated sins start decreasing.

By sleeping on the ground during Karthik, one is entitled to the same religious merits as are obtainable by donating a piece of land to Brahmins during solar and lunar eclipses.

On November 22, “Gopashtami” will be celebrated. Gopashtami is the day when cows are worshipped. It is also a day to pay tribute to the precious “Godhan” or cow wealth and pay respect, and gratitude to this auspicious life giver, i.e. the cow. As Indians we worship cows and call them Gau Mata.

Astrologically, when the ritual is over or completed, then the soil beneath the cow’s feet is applied on the forehead. By doing this the devotee’s luck improves.

Astrologically and ayurvedically: If you take a bath before sunrise for a whole month and consume “Amla” (emblica officinalis) every day except on navmi tithi (as per Hindi calender) that falling on November 23 this year, one can remain healthy, young and have a glowing skin.

Try to instil love and devotion towards God in your heart, as when one has done this they are strong enough to handle any situation life might offer.

Wishing you a joyous and prosperous month of Karthik.
