Mantras for everyday life - Mahesh Bang

AFTER receiving a number of requests about which mantras to chant, when and how, I decided to share some with you.

SIMPLE AND STRONG MANTRAS FOR EVERYDAY LIFE:

Mantras are repetitive words or sounds which when repeated or chanted with faith and concentration produce great results.

They fulfill your desires and wishes and bring positive changes in you.

Without going into the details of the importance of mantras in everyday life, I would like to apprise you of the importance of a few very simple but strong mantras.

There are a few points which must be kept in mind while choosing and chanting mantras, such as cleanliness of the body  and mind.

Try to set a time for chanting your mantra. Early morning is the best time, though these mantras can be chanted at any time.

Choose a quiet, clean place  where you can sit comfortably. It is better to chant the mantra on an empty stomach.

If food is there then energy will be shared in digesting the food and in meditation.

We want full energy to concentrate on the mantra. This will be possible in the morning.

Choose a mantra or mantras which you can comfortably chant. Be disciplined about it.

Don’t chant one mantra  today and the other some other time. Decide and then stick to  the decision.

Before you begin, go through the mantras and pronounce them, understand their meaning and learn them by rote also so that you can easily chant them.

As it is said “karat karat abhyas ke, jadmat hoth sujaan, rasri  aavat jaat hai sil par hot nisaan”, that is with consistent practice  even a fool becomes intelligent in the same way when a rope is constantly rubbed against a stone  for a long time it leaves a mark on the stone.

We begin with the first mantra:

  1. OM GAN GANPATAYE NAMAH

This mantra pays obeisance to Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is known as the vighnkarak or one who gets rid of all your obstacles and gives success in life.

  1. GAYATRI MANTRA-AUM BHUR BHUVAH SWAHA, TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM, BHARGODEVASYA DHIMAHI, DHIYOYONAHA PRACHODAYAT

O Divine being remove this darkness and take us towards light (enlightenment).

  1. NAVGRAHA MANTRA – OM BRAHMA MURARI TRIPURANTKARI BHANU SHASHI BHUMI SUTO BUDHUSHCHA GURUSHCHA SHUKRA SHANI RAHU KETVA SARVE GRAHA SHANTI KARA BHAVANTU

This mantra is to align the nine planets in your horoscope. It is a prayer to the holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh to realign the negative placements of stars in your horoscope and make them positive.

  1. LAXMI MANTRA – OM SHREEM HREEM SHREEM KAMALE KAMALALAYE PRASEED PRASEED SHREEM HREEM SHREEM OM MAHALAKSHMAYE NAMAH

This is the most prevalent and popular of Mahalaxmi mantras and one of the strongest mantras for attaining wealth and prosperity.

  1. DURGA NAVARNA MANTRA – OM AING HREENG KLEENG CHAMUNDAYE VICHCHE

This is the Shakti Mantra.  It evokes the three major goddesses – Goddess Saraswati (goddess  of education and intellect),  goddess Laxmi (goddess of wealth, prosperity and happiness) and goddess Durga (Goddess of shakti and strength).

  1. VISHNU MANTRA – OM NAMAH BHAGVATE VASUDEVAYE NAMAH

Vishnu Bhagwan is one of the most revered deities of Hindus. Through this mantra we pay obeisance to Lord Vishnu. Regular chanting of this mantra liberates us from our sins and fulfils our desires.

  1. MAHAMRITUNJAYE MANTRA – OM TRAYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE SUGANDHIM PUSHTIVARDHANAM URVARUKMIV BANDHANAN MRITYORMUKSHIYE MAMRTAT

Again, a very powerful and popular mantra. A simplistic meaning of this mantra is that we pay obeisance to the three-eyed deity whose fragrance permeates in our being and frees us from mortality. When chanted regularly, this mantra gives us the best of health and long life.

  1. MAHAMANTRA – HARE RAM HARE RAM RAM RAM HARE HARE/ HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE

This is called the Mahamantra because of its various benefits. Chanting of this mantra brings peace, harmony knowledge of self, liberation from our bad karmas and from the endless cycle of birth and death and brings us closer to God.

  1. SHANTI MANTRA – “OM SHANTI SHANTI SHANTI OM”

Shanti Mantra promotes peace. Here, Shanti is chanted thrice in a row to complete one mantra. The prefix and the suffix OM can be attached to any mantra to make it more potent. The first chant of Shanti is to get rid of all your physical or bodily sufferings, the second Shanti is to get rid of your mental worries and illnesses like anger, hatred, jealousy etc. In this way your soul gets cleansed. The third Shanti is to protect you against calamities like earthquakes, accidents or the calamities caused by nature.

The mantras have been made in such a way as to get rid of the negative influences of your life and fulfil your desires.

Here comes the question of how many times you should chant a mantra to make it effective.

The minimum is 108 times a day (namely one mala either of rudraksha or kamalgatta or tulsi) maximum is up to you, your wish and your faith.
